Day 40: Dinosaur

Curse those Meteor Showers: Our 40th Movie!!

1. What movie did you watch?
Dinosaur. The film was released in 2000 and is Disney's first non-Pixar computer animated feature. While the characters in Dinosaur are computer-animated, most of the film's backgrounds are live-action and were filmed on location in Venezuela, making for a compelling visual effect. Critics originally praised the film, (primarily for its stunning visuals) and it was a success at the box office, becoming the 5th highest-grossing film of 2000. Fun fact: The film was originally going to be much more violent in tone, and would end with the Cretaceous era extinction event, which would ultimately result in the deaths of the film's characters. This was scrapped for obvious reasons.

2. Have you seen it before/ how long has it been since you last saw it?
Maddie: I maybe saw it once after the time I saw it in theaters- it was never one that I loved as a kid.
Alexis: I haven't seen it in many years. I know we used to own it on VHS but it's been a really long time since I watched it.

3. What memories did it recall?
Maddie: The main memory was of the ride in Walt Disney World at Animal Kingdom- very fun!! The carnotaurus pops out at the end!

Alexis: When this movie first came out, they had Dinosaur toys in the Happy Meals at McDonald's. The toys were rubber hand puppets of most of the characters. My family went a couple times during the course of the movie, and each time my sister and I got the carnotaur one, and we were so upset! Also, at one point in my childhood I had a reoccurring nightmare featuring me being chased by a tyrannosaurus rex/ carnotaur type thing and I've avoided dinosaur movies ever since. I'm traumatized. The dream was likely inspired by this movie, so thanks a lot Dinosaur!

4. What did you think of it?
Maddie: Definitely not my fav- couldn't really connect with the characters and it just felt very dark to me.
Alexis: It's okay but it's not amazing. The coolest part I think is how they made it by using computer generated images over real video and pictures of tropical places. But overall, I think the plot isn't that deep.

5. Favorite moment:
Maddie: I guess when they arrive in the valley after getting through the cave. It's a nice moment when the older ones realize they are irrelevant and can help.
Alexis: I always liked the lemurs the best, so my favorite parts involved them! I also remember as a kid I really liked the score, which is an odd thing for a little kid to notice but I enjoyed the music.

6. Any other comments:
Maddie: Meh
Alexis: It's really hard to find gifs/images of this movie, all you get is Jurassic Park!
